Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will not face punishment from the PSL for both wearing black shorts in their matchday kits in Saturday's Soweto derby.

Both the South African Football Association and the Premier Soccer League agree that only the match officials who handled the match can determine if there was a violation of Law 4 in the Chiefs and Pirates match.

"It's not really a big issue, the preference is both teams wear colours that distinguish themselves from each other," SAFA head of Referees Abdul Ebrahim tells KickOff.

"It could probably mean whoever was in the away team did not bring other shorts for them to wear, or the referee deemed it not to be a problem.

"But ideally, both teams should wear colours that distinguish them from each other, as well as the match officials.

"Whatever was decided on the pre-match meeting and a team didn't obey, then it's up to the match commissioner to act.

"Before games, Premier Soccer League teams have phone meetings to confirm their colours.

"What is agreed on in the pre-match meetings it's what you as a match official expect to see on the field of play.

"If the match officials deemed it okay for the day, the match goes ahead with no problem.

"Remember, we can't let a colour of a sock or shorts to unnecessarily stop a match.

"Again, on Saturday, we all saw the game went ahead, and there wasn't an issue with the colours.

"It depends on what they decided and confirmed in the pre-match meeting, if the other team change their minds afterwards then they need to be reported to the league."

According to PSL official Professor Ronnie Schloss, this will not be an issue.

"No, it's not really an issue, if the referee passed it, then it's fine, it's up to the referees to make that decision."
