FC Barcelona failed to open a ten-point gap at the top of LaLiga after a shock 1-0 loss to UD Almeria on Sunday evening.
Having missed the UEFA Europa League defeat to Manchester United, the Catalans welcomed back Gavi and Raphinha started on the bench with Ferran Torres flanked wide of the attack.
Barcelona struggled from the start and trailed when El Bilal Toure combined with Luis Suarez before going on to pick up the reverse pass in-behind and thumped in off the underside of the crossbar.
The danger wasn't over for the Catalan giants as a ball in from a corner saw Rodrigo Ely go inches wide off the head after staying well clear of the defensive lines around the half-hour mark.
As halftime approached, Barcelona battled to find spaces in behind and instead conceded further chances after Leo Baptistao volleyed in from a corner before Marc-Andre Ter Stegen parried.
Barca pulled on a substitution ahead of the second half in an attempt to turn the tie around and took out Franck Kessie to bring on Raphinha.
Following a dominant first half, the host battled to maintain their commanding spell of play and needed to drop deep to keep the numerous forays presented by the Catalans at bay.
Raphinha, though, should've gotten the visitors on level terms 20 minutes to the end from a cross, but the Brazilian was unable to make a connection with the delivery as the ball rolled out of play.
Barcelona pushed up again minutes apart and saw a curling ball in from a tight angle skipped narrowly beyond the far post with Ronald Araujo unable to make contact.
The opportunities kept coming for the Blaugrana ahead of the final whistle, but their inability to hit the target proved costly and experienced defeat.
