Arsenal bounce back to triumph in London derby

Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Premier League after defeating rivals Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Jorginho stepped in as captain in place of the injured Martin Odegaard, with Declan Rice unavailable due to suspension and replaced by Gabriel Martinelli, whilst Dominic Solanke returned for Spurs.

Swede Dejan Kulusevski had the first shot in anger on five minutes where he picked up a cutback from Heung-Min Son to launch from a tight angle, but David Raya courted him.

Arsenal intensified more pressure minutes in as Martinelli charged on the left and crossed to the back-post for Kai Havertz to lash in a downward header, but Guglielmo Vicario parried.

Returning Solanke snapped a clear opening to give the host the front-foot inside the half-hour mark with a header across the face of the area from a cross by Son, but it rolled wide.

There were no substitutions made by either side before the commencement of the second half, as the tie remained level and keenly poised.

Arsenal weren't bothered and hit the front when Gabriel Magalhaes beat a crowded a penalty area to meet a corner-kick by Bukayo Saka and headed in to make it 1-0.

However, Spurs enjoyed most of the possession and territorial play in all areas in the latter exchanges but still couldn't carve out the equaliser.

The Gunners showed new signing Raheem Sterling his debut after he joined on-loan from Chelsea on the deadline day – sacrificing Martinelli.

Kulusevski remained energised for the host in added time when he attempted a powerful long-range finish, but unfortunately went wide and had the final score 1-0 to the Gunners.
