Arsenal thrash Brighton to move top of the Premier League

Arsenal moved to the top of the Premier League after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 on Saturday evening.

Gunners coach Mikel Arteta brought back the big guns as Bukayo Saka, Jorginho, Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus were recalled following Weddnesday's win over Luton Town.

The visitors registered the first big opening of the gam after 13 minutes when Bukaya Saka got on the end of Gabriel Jesus' cross, but he was unable to beat Bright goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen who pulled off the save.

Arteta's men managed to get the breakthrough in the 33rd minute when Saka converted a penalty after Jesus had been brought down by Tariq Lamptey in the 18-yard area.

Goalkeeper David Raya came to Arsenal's rescue on the stroke of halftime after producing a fine finger-tip save to keep out Encisco's powerful strike that looked destined for the top corner.

Howver, the Gunners would go on to double their lead in the 61st minute when Kai Havertz bagged his 10th goal across all competitions by turning home Jorginho's cross.

That was goal was enough to see Arteta make a couple change for the final 25 minutes, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli replacing Saka and Jesus.

Trossard would go on to end any hopes of a Brighton comeback when he raced clear from Havertz's through-ball before lobbing Verbruggen and celebrating against his former side.

Liverpool will reclaim top spot with a win over arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday, other wise a loss or a draw will see the Gunners remain top for the weekend.
