Liverpool to sign Takumi Minamino after release clause from Red Bull Salzburg activated

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is closing in on his latest signing for the European champions as the January transfer window approaches.

The Reds have enjoyed an incredible season thus far, currently leading the Premier League, eight points ahead of second-placed Leicester City.

And despite their unbeaten run within the English top-flight they have reportedly activated the release clause of RB Salzburg forward Takumi Minamino, who left a lasting impression on the German manager.

The 25-year-old produced standout displays against the reigning champions in their two group stage meetings, which has seemingly prompted the Reds to invest in the Japan international.

According to The Times, the £7.25 million release clause has been met and the two parties have opened talks over personal terms - while the club also confirmed the talks.

With Klopp's side facing heavy fixture congestion during the new-year period with the club world cup, league and domestic cup competitions, the mercurial talent has been identified to add depth.

Since joining the Austrian giants from Cerezo Osaka, Minamino has scored 64 goals and registered 44 assists in 199 appearances.
