Jonathan Philippe returns to Greek club Agrotikos Astero after failed Kaizer Chiefs trials

Information reaching this website confirms that Philippe has agreed to a two-year deal with the Greeks.

“He [Philippe] has gone back to the same team in Greece that he was playing for last season,” a source tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“They had an offer on the table for him all along but [he] had been keen on a new challenge only to have to deal with the disappointment of being told Chiefs will not be taking him on board after training with them for almost a month.”

The 29-year-old had an agreement in principle with Chiefs, although the move was never rubber-stamped.

Chiefs have since confirmed they remain in the hunt for a striker to complement their attack, with their quest aided by their still having two foreign spots open.

Chiefs have also run the rule over Okiki Afolabi of Nigeria, but he has not been up to the standards that the club is looking for to reinforce their frontline, which still looks thin with Gustavo Paez, Bernard Parker and Ryan Moon the only real options.

Chiefs have three foreign players at the moment in Paez, who is of Venezuelan origin, along with the Zimbabwean pair of Teenage Hadebe and Edmore Chirambadare.
