Siyabonga Nkosi on the weight of the Kaizer Chiefs No. 10 jersey

Nkosi wore the famous number for Amakhosi between 2012 and 2015 and won the Absa Premiership, MTN8 and Nedbank Cup during his time with the club.

The retired 38-year-old believes every player who wore the number played his own part at the club.

"Well, my opinion is that the whole thing is just perception because it's not possible that a jersey can be heavy on anyone, irrespective of who wore the jersey before," Nkosi tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"I think for me it's not practical. I like to look at things in a practical way as to what's possible. That's how I view football as to what's happening and what's possible or what's realistic.

"So I really don't think that it's a case of a jersey being heavy, everyone has their own path. I think the players that have come to Chiefs who wore the jersey have walked their own path, contributed in their own way to the success or lack thereof of the team.

"So when you are done, when you've left the club, you look at how you fared, what you've done... you make your own conclusions. And I think that's the only thing important for any player, because it's your career and you have certain goals and dreams.

"If you came to Chiefs, wore number 10, achieved those goals and dreams, then that's the only thing that matters, or else it just remains a public opinion."

Asked why he thought Chiefs no longer have players like him, he was a bit embarassed to answer.

"Well, your second question is a bit tricky because it forces me to speak about myself, my attributes as a player, and I'd like to not dwell much on that even though I'm very confident of the abilities that I had and the quality that I possessed," he says.

"But I don't like to sound like I'm gloating about it, boasting about it. So it's a bit tricky. But I still believe Chiefs do have quality players, and they do have players that you will feel they have that something special in them, have that extra added quality. And you know, strong brains.

"I think they still have those type of players right now capable of putting out good performances and also getting results, just like they've proven. It's a team that's capable of playing good football.

"I know the perception right now has been that they don't really play attractive football at the moment, but you must also consider where they come from and you consider. And you also put yourself in the positions of those who make decisions in terms of the coaching. So for me personally, I believe there is quality there in the team."

In years gone by, Bernard Parker has often played like a number 10 even though he wears number 25, while fan favourite Hendrick Ekstein did not manage to make much impact before leaving. Fringe player Siphelele Ntshangase currently wears the number at The Village.
