Zongo enthralled the Royal Bafokeng Stadium crowd with some excellent tricks and also had a decent game going forward in a match that was generally, from both sides, bereft of a final pass and finish.
MATCH REPORT: Stars and Downs in stalemate
“I like the boy Zongo, he's a good footballer, he's very exciting and I've got nothing personal against him, but if he has to win Man of the Match for this game, really, I don't know who chooses the Man of the Match,” Mosimane said after the game.
“He's a really good footballer, talented, I love him, but he needs to make entries inside the box, he needs to make shots in the box, he needs to do that, then he can win Man of the Match.
“Because we are going to promote tricks only, without precision. Look at Thabo Rakhale of Orlando Pirates, very good, he can dribble and he can finish. That's Lionel Messi, that's Neymar.
“But if you give Man of the Matches [you need to look at] how many number of entries he made into the box, how many goals he tried to score, how many crosses he made, so those are the issues, otherwise we are going to kill our football. Then we're going to let every little child know that when you do tricks, you win Man of the Match.
“No, tricks with precision. Go forward, dribble past, like Messi [either] put the ball in the net, or deliver the last pass, or cross."
“But I want to say it again, I’ve got nothing against the boy Zongo, and he must get it, because he’s been giving.”
Mosimane was frustrated by the result and his side’s missed opportunities.
“We should have won this game, we controlled the game, we dominated, but at the end of the day it’s really nothing, you must score the goal. We should have scored five goals,” he added.
