DStv Premiership match report SuperSport United v AmaZulu 05 March 2022

SuperSport United got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership when they defeated AmaZulu 2-0 on Saturday evening.

Recent acquisition Aubrey Ngoma made his first start for United who named Bangaly Soumahoro on the bench for the first time, with Andre De Jong and Bonginkosi Ntuli among the changes by Usuthu.

SuperSport, who were off back-to-back losses, were on the back-foot earlier on when a curling strike from a free-kick by Tapelo Xoki forced goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to a save.

A set-piece from a similar position was awarded to United in the middle of the first half and Jamie Webber managed to blast through the wall and worked a save off Veli Mothwa.

Matsatsantsa made their scenarios from particular corner-kicks count after a fumble by Mothwa from an entry nine minutes to halftime saw Jesse Donn react and stabbed home.

SuperSport's lead was under threat on the brink of halftime as Usuthu through a strike in the area by De Jong and then Ntuli struck the upright in quick succession.

The start of the second half weren't without activity in which Usuthu introduced Keagan Buchanan for Xola Mlambo and withdrew Matarr Ceesay to bring on Luvuyo Memela.

Usuthu received a big chance to draw level 50 minutes in when a foul by Webber on Makhehlene Makhaula led to a penalty-kick, which Ntuli failed to bury.

SuperSport made the most of the reprieve and doubled their lead when a loose ball involving Mothwa four minutes later had Iqraam Rayners pounce and fired into an empty net.

The host experienced a bit of pressure from Usuthu thereafter, but should've had a third late on when a first-time header in the area by Ghampani Lungu flew wide.

With Sipho Mbule brought on following a lengthy absence, Usuthu finished the match with ten players in the dying minutes after Xoki walked down the tunnel for a second bookable offence.

In the end, Matsatsantsa managed to run down the closing minutes of the match and returned to victory.
