Lukaku is in fine form, netting 13 goals in all competitions this season ahead of his club's Premier League clash with Palace at Goodison Park on Monday.
The imposing Belgian hit 20 goals for the Toffees last term.
"He is the full number nine," Pardew said to BBC Sport of the 22-year-old.
"We looked at the iconic one of the last 10 years, Drogba, and you have to say Lukaku does look like he could emulate that.
"Lukaku is an unusual player in that he is naturally left-footed. I think for a striker that is an advantage.
"Most defenders are defending right-footed players and he gives them a slight problem which sets him apart."
Drogba enjoyed a stellar career in England, scoring 104 goals and providing 63 assists in 254 games as he helped the Blues to four League titles, three League Cups, four FA Cups as well as the Uefa Champions League title prior to his departure in the off-season.
