After leaving Pirates in 2013 the midfielder joined Mpumalanga Black Aces and is now playing for University of Pretoria in the GladAfricaChampionship.
The 32-year-old admits he misses the limelight of playing in the country's top-flight.
"I would say it's the biggest for football in the country. So obviously anyone would miss the PSL if they've been there before. I would have liked to stay longer to show my quality there and help other youngsters.
"At the moment for me it's not a matter of playing in PSL or making money. If you didn't make money at the age of 20, you can't make money now in football. NFD is a good league, it's just that it needs support."
Ngobeni says going down to the NFD does not mean his career is almost finished.
"That's the problem with us people of South Africa. I mean nothing stays on top forever and nothing stays at the bottom forever," he argues.
"In my career ja, I did what I did and then I've enjoyed it. And then with injuries as well, and I stayed maybe a season without a team recovering. And I recovered and then Tuks gave me an opportunity.
"It's not a matter of retiring, as long as you are still fit and you able to do what you are required to do.
"Look at Europe, there's players that are playing who are 38, 40. I mean why in South Africa do we want our players to retire and force them to retire before the time?"
