In this edition of My Locker Room Secrets, former Mamelodi Sundowns star Papi Mbele 'dish out the dirt' on his former teammates.
Whose locker room are we in today?
"Papi Mbele."
Who was always late?
"Lovers Mohlala and Papi Mbele. Almost every week after every training session we would go to Durban just for girls. We were naughty, grootman. At the same time, we were so passionate about football.
"To Lovers, social life was always a priority, football was just for fun. He was always late, he would come up with excuses like, my car was broken. He would always fight with Paul Dolezar or with Miss Natasha Tsichlas. That's Lovers for you."
Was it a muti change room?
"To be honest, at Sundowns, we were not using muti. At least not in front of us.
"Muisi Ajao always led us in prayers."
Who was the singer?
"Papi Mbele and Themba Mnguni."
Who was the jokester?
"Lovers was very funny, he always teased us. He'd tell us this is a Pretoria team; he'd tell Matthew Booth he looks like a camel.
"Natasha Tsichlas would say to Lovers, remember I'm paying you to perform. And Lovers's response would be, I don't care about your money I just want to play football."
Was it a muti change room?
"Not in front of me. Unless they put it on our jerseys."
Who was the best dressed?
"Papi Mbele, Themba Mnguni and Fire Masilela we're the best dressed.
"I loved Carvela, even now I'm still dressed in Carvela, All-Star and Diesel jeans.
"Fire Masilela was always in his suits, you'd think he was going to a funeral
"Marc Batchelor was the worst dresser. He was dressing kak he was dressing terribly that one. He was always in his takkies and tracksuits.
"Muisi Ajao as well, he was always in his West African traditional clothes."
Rate the coach's team talk
"Neil Tovey was the best. He emphasised discipline and a good attitude, and he was always saying simple football will help us win games, pass where you are facing, and share the ball to make opponents get tired by looking for the ball."
