Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso described the victory over Stellenbosch FC as a ‘fantastic result’ after a gruelling week in the Betway Premiership.
A penalty on the stroke of halftime by Peter Shalulile secured victory, with the latter going on to become the league’s all-time top scorer in the process.

The first half though was the best the club had played in many months against a team known to be no pushovers and was semi-finalist in last season’s CAF Confederation Cup.
“It was a fantastic first half, I think the best we have seen in the last months, totally control of the match against a team that last year was semi-finalists of the Confederation Cup. It’s important to remember that three days after playing Kaizer Chiefs that seven days playing Pirates – fantastic performance in the first half,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.
“I think that the result should’ve been even bigger and then going to keep the pace in the second half – obviously it led us capacity to substitute players in the flanks especially the wingers, we had no wingers on the bench unfortunately.
“Mabena got a set-back on his knee and we got no more wingers and we’re working on the future to enforce the position of the team with that position. When we put two players in the flanks.
“It was clear that was a space not being fulfilled and because of that with reaction trying to go for the equaliser of Stellenbosch the game became more tricky. We tried together the team the spirit to hold the result and fantastic result, not many people will take points from here."
