Why Mngqithi is unhappy with Magesi final

Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has expressed some unhappiness with the scheduling of the Carling Knockout final, where Mamelodi Sundowns will meet Magesi.

The Brazilians booked their place in the final of the Carling Knockout with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants in the semi-final of the cup competition on Sunday.

However, Bafana Bafana are also playing the second of two AFCON qualifiers on Tuesday, 19 November where they will host South Sudan at DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

This presents somewhat of a recovery challenge for Mngqithi, with as many as 10 players selected from Sundowns selected as part of Bafana Bafana.

The former Lamontville Golden Arrows coach expressed his dissatisfaction with the selected date.

"I don't think the area where the final is put is fair to anyone," he said.

"Not immediately after the FIFA break, but sometimes you must just accept whatever comes because I think where we are playing Sekhukhune United [the following weekend], we could have played the final there and it would have been better.

"Maybe you could still have a league match on that weekend, but not immediately after the FIFA break when we have got so many players that are in national teams," he added.

"But what can we do? We have to do with what we have and we must accept that burdens and blessings always go together.

"Sometimes you will blame the league for putting the final there, but what if they put it (there) without the knowledge that we will be in the final?

"I don't think there's much we can do about it."

Having lost out on the MTN8, the Carling Knockout trophy has become all the more important to Sundowns.

"It will always be important for Sundowns to win every match, whether it is a cup final, league match or friendly," Mngqithi added.

"It is just important to make sure we win it. We have enough quality to win almost every fixture that we play.
