Kaizer Chiefs can beat Zesco United in CAF Confederation Cup play-off, says Pitso Mosimane

Chiefs are set to meet Zesco in the play-off round for a place in the Confed Cup group stages, with the first leg set for Ndola on Sunday afternoon.

The Zambian champions were losers in the CAF Champions League, going down to TP Mazembe in the group stage play-off round. And with all their experience on the continent in recent years they will certainly prove a stern test for Amakhosi.

However, Mosimane, who led Mamelodi Sundowns past Los Zegalacticos in their CAF Champions League semi-final en-route to their maiden continental crown in 2016, has since offered some advice for Chiefs.

“Against Zesco, with Kaizer Chiefs playing like this – in my opinion, and my experience – I think they are proper for home, but Ndola is tough hey,” said Mosimane, after beating The Glamour Boys 2-1 over the weekend.

“It’s not easy with that team, they are a bit tricky. I think you saw how they played against TP Mazembe, who were skating on thin ice. But Kaizer Chiefs has the team for that.”

‘Jingles’ also expressed his delight at travelling the continent alongside fellow PSL giants, including Orlando Pirates, and feels it will be of great benefit to the South African national team.

“It’s also good and I’m so happy to have my brothers [Chiefs and Pirates] there now in the group stages [sic]. We are all flying the flag,” he added.

“It’s good for Bafana Bafana because we are playing against [African] players. In that space, I’m happy with that. It’s okay, it’s our lives for the past five years that we’ve been in that space.”
