Brazil World Cup 2014 tickets on sale!

The football governing body is expecting demand to at least match that of Germany 2006, when there were roughly seven applicants for every ticket for the 64-match tournament, and over 3.3-million fans attending.

When South Africa hosted the tournament in 2010 there was a slight dip in sales.

“It’s always difficult to predict,” Fifa marketing director Thierry Weil says. “But I truly believe that it will be more toward to what happened in Germany than in South Africa in 2010.

“In South Africa in 2010, for instance, we sold 1.9-million tickets but the bulk of those were sold during the tournament, just before games, as culturally that’s how tickets are bought there.”

Around 3.3 million tickets will be available for the tournament in Brazil, ranging from US $90 (R900) for first-round matches to $990 (R10,000) for the final at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Brazilian citizens over 60, local students and members of some social programmes will be able to buy tickets for $23 (R230).

The first period of ticket sales stretches from August 20 to October 10.

According to Fifa, “The date on which tickets are requested is not important during this period, as all requests will be amalgamated at the end of the phase and processed together.

“If the number of requests received per game and category exceeds the number of tickets available, a lottery will be held to determine the applicants selected.”

The sales of the leftover tickets will begin on November 5 on a first-come, first-served basis, and the final phase will begin on December 8 after the World Cup draw is made.

The tournament begins on 12 June, with Brazil playing the opener in Sao Paulo.
