Rulani's Wydad rejected, player opts for switch to England

Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club have reportedly been rejected by a player who has opted for move to England instead.

After announcing Moroccan defender Fahd Moufi as their first acquisition in the current winter transfer window, Wydad Athletic Club look set to miss out on another key target, as the club aims to bolster their squad ahead of a crucial phase in the 2024/25 campaign.

Nordin Amrabat, the elder brother of Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat, has reportedly turned down an approach from Wydad to pursue a move to the English second division instead.

The 37-year-old winger has been without a club since leaving AEK Athens in January following a successful stint crowned by a domestic cup and league double in 2023.

According to Joueurs Marocains per Afrik Foot, Wydad's offer, which included the enticing opportunity to feature in the Club World Cup later this season, was not enough to sway the former Atlas Lions star.

Instead, Amrabat has decided on joining Hull City, who are currently 22nd in the EFL Championship table.

Amrabat has joined the Tigers to provide cover for injured players Liam Millar and Algerian Mohamed Belloumi, who are both ruled out for the season with cruciate ligament tears.

Amrabat is also understood to have been training with Hull since mid-December and could make his debut this weekend against Millwall.

Meanwhile, with Moufi already on board, Wydad are reportedly targeting up to four additional signings before the January window closes, as they seek to strengthen their squad and finish the season on a high under Mokwena's guidance.
