The junior international joined the Urban Warriors from Mamelodi Sundowns on a permanent deal in August. Mukumela was promoted to the Sundowns first team last season, but did not make an appearance for the side.
Now he is playing regularly in the National First Division and recently bagged his first goal in a clash against Maccabi FC.
He believes he is playing at his best at the moment.
“At first it was not easy, I adapted to the weather, I adapted to what the coaches want from me and five games later I am playing at my best and I scored my first goal last week,” Mukumela told Ajax's website.
The goal against Maccabi was the first of his professional career. He will certainly not forget that moment and is probably looking forward to scoring more to help the Urban Warriors make a return to the topflight of South African football.
“Yes, it was my first professional goal, I have scored goals for Sundowns U-19, Sundowns ABC Motsepe League, Sundowns’ Vodacom team, but that was my first professional goal,” he says.
The 20-year-old, who can play in various positions, is one of South Africa’s best young talents and will no doubt play a key role in the senior national team in future.
He’s shown good leadership qualities whenever he has captained the national Under-20 team Amajita.
Ajax, meanwhile, were beaten 1-0 by Richards Bay on Sunday. They next take on TS Galaxy at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday (15h30).
