Santana: Safa elections the key

Dutch TV show Studio Voetbal claimed that the South African governing body was contemplating making a change after the national team's uninspiring performances of late. However, if there is to be a change in the Bafana technical set-up it is unlikely that any decision will be made, or announced, until after the Association's executive committee's elections that are scheduled to take place in Kempton Park this weekend. Although nominations have not yet been officially announced for Safa's September 26 poll, PSL chairman Irvin Khoza and the 2010 LOC chairman Danny Jordaan are being tipped to fight for the post of president being vacated by Molefi Oliphant, who is standing down.  The PSL executive committee will meet tomorrow and Wednesday with the Safa elections expected to feature on the agenda. The Santana issue will not be discussed as Bafana does not fall under their jurisdiction. Should Orlando Pirates' boss Khoza emerge successful in the Safa elections, he is set to resign as chairman of the PSL and Kaizer Chiefs' Kaizer Motaung is being widely tipped to lead the PSL. Both Khoza and Motaung are on record as having said they do not favour any change in the Bafana technical department. Another issue that is likely to be discussed at the League's meeting is that of a successor to replace incumbent CEO Kjetil Siem, whose contract ends after 2010.
