This was confirmed at a special general meeting in Johannesburg on Saturday. While nominations have still to be confirmed, it is understood that the main candidates for the post current held by president Molefi Oliphant and Irvin Khoza and Danny Jordaan. The weekend meeting also voted to indefinitely postpone discussions around proposed constitutional amendments, saying that the proposed amendments were not urgent.
Speculation of late has been that the elections could be shelved. This centres around reported in-fighting within the association between Oliphant and Safa's vice-president Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, who is the spokesperson of the newly formed Football Transformation Forum (FTF), a structure that has thrown its weight behind Jordaan while Oliphant is believed to have thrown his weight behind Khoza. Khoza has still not announced publicly that he is standing. Jordaan did this a long time ago. According to a weekend newspaper report, Khoza, who is the chairperson of the SA 2010 Fifa World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Premier Soccer League (PSL), Orlando Pirates chairperson and Safa vice-president, maintains that he will talk publicly on the issue only once he has been officially nominated. August 27 is the deadline for nominations.
