The most valuable XI in world football has been revealed with five time Ballon d'Or winners' Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi failing to make the team.
CIES Football Observatory released a study of the 100 of the most valuable football players in the world who are still actively playing.

Surprisingly, Messi and Ronaldo were not even included in the top three of the list despite their legendary exploits in the game that have seen them considered as the greatest to ever play the game.

The ability of the two players are still extraordinary but the research uses a special algorithm that formulates values based on several variables.
Age, contract status, position, playing minutes, number of goals, international status and team match results hold the most weight in the overall valuation of each player.
Messi, who scored a total of 51 goals last season was ranked fourth in the list with a market value of €167.4 million.
Ronaldo, on the other hand, scored 27 goals in his first season in Italy but the fact that he's 34 years old affected the unique algorithm.
Thus, the two 'gods of football' failed to make the overall the starting line-up of the most valuable players in the world after the 2018/19 season as the current value of Ronaldo and Messi is inferior to Mohamed Salah, Raheem Sterling and 20-year-old Kylian Mbappe.
