Jose Mourinho defends new signing Juan Cuadrado

Cuadrado joined Chelsea on the last day of the January transfer window from Italian side Fiorentina, and has so far made four appearances for the London outfit.

The Colombian is yet to make an impact, however, Mourinho has come to Cuadrado’s defence, saying he needs time to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

"He is adapting. He needs to adapt in everything," said Mourinho.

"The pace of the game, in Italy it's completely different, the intensity is much higher [here], it is different to play at the intensity we play – especially for 90 minutes,” he added.

The former Real Madrid mentor also defended the 26-year-old’s new role at the Blues, which is vastly different to his previous role at his former employers.

"At Fiorentina he was playing as a wide player, here he has to go to areas where he's not adapted to it.

"I truly believe we are not seeing the player we know we have, because the kid needs to adapt," explained ‘The Special One’.
