“Andre Schurrle has today joined Wolfsburg in a permanent transfer,” read a statement on Chelsea’s official website.
The 24-year-old joined the Blues from Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen in June 2013, and made 65 appearances under Jose Mourinho, scoring 14 goals.
However, after playing second fiddle to the likes of Willian, Oscar and Eden Hazard, rumours were rife that the forward would leave Stamford Bridge.
And just minutes before the end of the German transfer window at 6pm, Wolfsburg – who lie second in the Bundesliga – confirmed Schurrle’s return to his home country.
“Finally - pen has been put to paper! Andre Schurrle makes the move from Chelsea to the Wolves. Contract until 2019,” the club tweeted from their official account.
The transfer is believed to be wortha reported £24 million.
Schurrle’s exit has now paved the way for Colombian and Fiorentina forward Juan Cuadrado to join the Premeir League heavyweights in a deal worth £26.8 million – the highest fee ever paid by an English club in the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old, who shone for the South Americans at last year’s World Cup, passed his medical earlier today and is set to have signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Londoners.
Cuadrado had played 23 games for La Viola this season, scoring six gols and providing three assists.
As part of the deal, Chelsea’s Mohamed Salah has moved in the opposite direction, joining Fiorentina on a six-month loan, with an option to buy.
