Barcelona edged Paris Saint-Germain in a five-goal thriller after claiming a 3-2 in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night.

Marco Asensio was the only player to retain his spot in the PSG line-up from the weekend's clash Clermont Foot, while Xavi Hernandez handed recalls to Frenkie de Jong and Ronald Araujo.

The visitors nearly got the breakthrough in the 20th minute when Robert Lewandowski beat PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to the ball, but Nuno Mendes was on the line to deny a certain goal.

The game began to open thereafter as PSG had an effort from distance through Lee Kang-In, who saw his long-range effort impressively parried away by goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

However, the opening goal would fall to the visitors in the 36th minute when Donnarumma punched Lamine Yamal's cross towards Raphinha, who needed no second invitation to smash home from close range.

PSG did get back on level terms shortly after the break as former Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele found the back of the net with a thumping finish that left Ter Stegen with no chance.

Luis Enrique's men then took the lead two minutes after the equaliser when Fabian Ruiz played in Vitinha, who showed great composure to slot past Ter Stegen.

However, PSG were pegged back in the 62nd minute as Raphinha completed his brace with a lovely first-time volley after being picked out by Pedri who had just replaced Sergi Roberto a minute earlier.

Just minutes after Dembele struck the woodwork for PSG, Xavi's men went on to secure the winning goal in the 76th minute when poor marking from a corner allowed Andreas Christensen to sneak in and head home from point-blank range.
