Benni McCarthy's contract at Manchester United reportedly expires at the end of the season.

Manchester United are reportedly set to make a major decision regarding their forwards coach, South African legend Benni McCarthy.

The former Bafana Bafana striker is currently in charge of attacking duties at Old Trafford, having been appointed to the role in July 2022.

The former Cape Town City boss was roped in by manager Erik ten Hag, alongside assistant coaches Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.

However, with just over two months said to be remaining on McCarthy's contract and the uncertainty around Ten Hag's future at the Theatre of Dreams, the ex-AmaZulu tactician is the subject of increasing speculation.

According to ESPN, a source has revealed that the 46-year-old's future in Manchester in indeed uncertain as he has not been approached by the club to sign a new deal.

As things stand, the former Blackburn Rovers talisman could be on his way out the English giants after two seasons in the role, with reports having linked him with a potential return to his homeland.

United, who are said to have declined to make an official comment on the matter, have scored just 45 goals in 31 Premier League matches this season, with only six teams in the division having scored less than they have.

It is also widely speculated that Dutch boss Ten Hag could be on his way out in June, with the new Sir Jim Ratcliffe-led regime yet to decide his fate as the Red Devils manager amid a largely underwhelming second season in charge.

England head coach Gareth Southgate is said to be one of the new ownership's preferred candidates for the position should they decide to move on from Ten Hag.

According to Manchester Evening News, United's new co-owners are currently concentrating on getting the right staff in technical and recruitment roles, with Matt Hargreaves set to take control of recruitment plans following John Murtough's confirmed exit earlier this week.
