With Percy Tau having missed Al Ahly's latest match, why he did not feature for the club at all on Monday night has reportedly been revealed.

The Egyptian giants booked their spot in the CAF Champions League semi-finals after beating Simba SC 3-0 on aggregate.

With Tau having played in the first leg of that tie away in Tanzania, he did not feature for his team in the return fixture in Cairo last Friday, having been named on the bench for the match by manager Marcel Koller.

His absence from that starting line-up was not a surprise, though, as reports in Egypt prior to the match indicated that he would be dropped to the bench by his Swiss boss, alongside two other stars.

However, Koller used all five of his substitutions, bringing on Akram Tawfik, Karim El Debes, Taher Mohamed, Mohamed Magdy, and Kahraba in that second leg, leaving Tau fixed to the bench.

On Monday night, the South African star missed yet another game for Al Ahly, this time against ENPPI as he failed to even make the matchday squad, with the Red Devils being held to a 2-2 draw in the Egyptian Premier League.

With his form seemingly having taken a massive dip, there have been some concerns that his absence could be down to his underwhelming performances of late.

However, it has now been reported that the reason for his absence was down to a minor injury, contrary to suggestions that it may have been down to poor form this term, which has seen him score just one goal in eight games in the Champions League.

According to Gomhuria Online, Al Ahly's head of the medical staff has confirmed that Tau was absent due to a bruised foot.

Overall, the South Africa international has scored six goals in 23 appearances for Al Ahly so far this season.
