Samuel Eto'o has now broken his silence on the "illegal" appointment of Cameroon's new head coach, which could see the country get a ban from football.

Earlier this week, it was surprisingly announced that Belgian tactician Marc Brys has been put in charge of the national team, and the decision has since caused a huge stir in the central African nation.

The announcement was broadcast on national television on Tuesday night, with the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) swiftly putting out a statement saying it was just as surprised as anyone due to the fact that they were not consulted when the decision was made, despite being the football governing body of the country.

The call to hire the national team's latest manager is understood to have been made by the sports ministry in the Cameroonian government, who is accused by FECAFOOT of ignoring their list of coaching candidates for the position prior to unveiling Brys, who joins the team about a month after Rigobert Song was sacked following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to The Will, Eto'o sent a letter to his country's government on Wednesday, stating that FECAFOOT does not recognise the new appointment as the decision was made "outside any legal and regulatory framework".

He also stated his regret that FECAFOOT was not involved "either from near or far" in the process of selecting the new national team manager.

Perhaps worryingly, FIFA could impose sanctions on Cameroon due to the government interference in the footballing matter and ban the team from all competitions for a period of time.

Furthermore, FIFA could set up a normalisation committee as it did in Zimbabwe before lifting any such ban.
