Mamelodi Sundowns’ DStv Premiership match against Sekhukhune United on Tuesday will carry extra value for the champions as they seek to set a new record.
Sundowns will host Sekhukhune at Loftus Versfeld in what will be game number 46 of their congested season, which will then have them play Esperance in the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-finals on Friday at the same venue.

The game against Sekhukhune will count as number 22 for this season in the league.
It will also be the first of nine that The Brazilians need 12 points from to wrap up the title defence.
However, of significance about the match against Sekhukhune is that if they avoid defeat again, it will be the longest unbeaten start to a new season in the history of the PSL.
The longest unbeaten start to a new season remains pegged at 21 games, which is where they are now.
They lost once on their way to the 2020/21 title and that remains the least number of defeats in a season.
The Brazilians’ remaining games are against Sekhukhune, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch FC, Cape Town City and Golden Arrows, while they must still play Royal AM and TS Galaxy home and away.
There is also the most wins column record, which stands at 22 (for a 16-team PSL league) and was achieved by Sundowns on their way to the 2015/16 title when they reached 71 points.
Sundowns have won 16 to date and need another seven to set a new top mark.
The 71-points target attained in the 2015/16 season remains the highest and they will surpass that with another 19 points in the bag from the nine remaining games.

Sundowns have now played 45 league games without defeat.
This sets out Rulani Mokwena for a fine record of having not lost a league match since he took sole charge in October 2022.
