Venda Football Academy 2-1 Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs’ title charge was dealt a set-back after going down 2-1 to Venda Football Academy in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Saturday.

The host pulled the first blow through a clever finish from Onke Moletshe, but Shaun Bartlett’s men levelled with a stunning free-kick by Rushwin Dortley.

However, Venda didn’t give up the hopes of a victory and snatched all the points when Nhlanhla Makhubela fired in late in the second half to leave Spurs title hopes hanging by a thread.

Pretoria Callies 1-1 Casric Stars

Casric Stars' ambitions to land the title remain alive following a 1-1 draw against Pretoria Callies on Saturday afternoon.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Siphelele Mthembu put the Romans ahead in the first half with a decent finish and needed Stars to stage a comeback.

The comeback did come from the visiting team though as Ngcebo Zulu came to the fore and piled in the all-important equaliser to leave his side second on the table.

Polokwane City 0-1 Uthongathi FC

Polokwane City missed a big chance to close the gap on the top-two with a disappointing 1-0 loss at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium to Uthongathi FC.

Both teams drew their last matches against JDR Stars and Venda Football Academy respectively, but the Cane Cutters were buoyant this time and snatched the points to dent Rise and Shine’s title hopes.

Rise and Shine are still in third spot on the table though, as the Cane Cutters cemented seventh-place with this narrow victory in Polokwane.

Platinum City Rovers 2-0 Black Leopards

Black Leopards' stay in the second tier was brought to an end as a 2-0 loss to Platinum City Rovers relegated them to the ABC Motsepe League.

Lidoda Duvha trailed at the break after Bonginkosi Dlamini fired in from the spot and the player went on to complete his brace after the interval and saw Leopards demoted.

All Stars 1-1 JDR Stars

All Stars failed to secure back-to-back wins and solidify fifth-place as they played to a 1-1 draw against JDR Stars at the Tsakane Stadium.

On-loan Mamelodi Sundowns forward Keletso Makgalwa made the breakthrough on the half-hour mark and saw his charges hold the advantage well into the interval.

The Hammerboyz bounced back after the course of the resumption and claimed a point through a finish from Elias Mocheko as the stalemate leaves his side sixth on the standings.

Magesi FC 1-2 Baroka FC

Baroka FC returned to winning ways and ended a run of two matches without a win following a 2-1 victory over Magesi FC in the Limpopo derby.

It was a dominant start by Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele as a superb free-kick from Sekela Sithole put them ahead before Ntiyiso Bombi made it two later on.

Magesi showed a bit of fight in the hope of salvaging something with Clement Moshwana pulling one back after the break, but it wasn’t to be as Bakgaga snatched the points.

Bakgaga did have a player dismissed after Thuso Mogale was given his marching orders late on.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC 1-2 Hungry Lions FC

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC were relegated from the Championship after a 2-1 loss to Hungry Lions FC in the Free State province.

With the first half ending goalless, an own-goal by Tani broke the deadlock and put the visitors ahead before Michael Khanyi doubled their lead later on.

Tshakhuma looked to stage a late comeback with a consolation, but it wasn’t to be as their tenure in the second tier comes to an end.

University of Pretoria 1-1 NB La Masia

University of Pretoria failed to get back to winning ways after last weekend’s defeat and played to a 1-1 draw against NB La Masia.

A penalty from veteran Samuel Julies in the middle of the first half put the host ahead, but La Masia clawed their way back and bagged a point
