Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates failed to regain top spot in the DStv Diski Challenge following a late 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Giant Stadium on Sunday.

Azola Matrose and Mohau Nkota spear-headed the Buccaneers attack, while on the other hand Siyabonga Mabena, Keabetswe Ramotsei and Kultwano Letlhaku lined-up in in the last third of the Brazilians.

Pirates enjoyed the better start through Nkota driving in and around the edge of the penalty area, but struggled to get openings and saw the clash goalless at halftime.

Masandawana upped the stakes in the second half, but were down to ten players after Mzwekhaya Noonxeni got his marching orders for a reckless challenge on Kwadi Molepo.

The disadvantage on the playing field didn’t deter the Brazilians, who did a smash-and-grab as substitute Onele Ruleana struck at the death to hand all the points.

Royal AM 3-0 Polokwane City

Royal AM piled more misery on the bottom-placed Polokwane City through a comprehensive 3-0 drubbing and at the same time got back to winning ways.

Thwihli Thwahla were denied maximum points in their last match the past weekend as Cape Town Spurs, while City suffered a 4-0 hammering by Richards Bay FC.

The victory increases the home side’s chances to cement their mid-table standing, whereas Rise and Shine go from bad to worse on their return to the league.

AmaZulu 1-1 Sekhukhune United

AmaZulu came from a goal down to hold Sekhukhune United to a 1-1 draw and snapped a nine-match losing streak.

Babina Noko pulled the first punce just inside two minutes as Gift Ngobeni rounded Usuthu goalkeeper Carlo Ally to pick out an empty net.

Ngobeni got a chance to add to his and his team’s tally later on through an inviting header, but missed before Jordan Marks snapped a decent chance for them too a while earlier.

Usuthu were level in added time when Sphamandla Zikhali’s trickery led Yanga Mfolosi to seize possession and fired in.

Both teams didn’t add to the first half efforts despite the opportunities presented after the break and settled for a point apiece.
