Kaizer Chiefs' need for a prolific striker may not come from the transfer market, as they have unearthed another lethal striker, who is chasing a record held by an Orlando Pirates forward.

Chiefs have been signing strikers with the hope of solving their goalscoring issues but the big-name signings have not lived up to expectations, with the last striker signing to hit the ground running and make an impact being Samir Nurkovic in the 2019/20 season.

Amakhosi interim coach Cavin Johnson, who was initially appointed as the Head of Academy and is renowned for being a top development coach, recently invited DStv Diski Challenge forward Donay Jansen, who was a regular goalscorer for the reserve team, to the first team training and Jansen has reportedly left a lasting impression.

In spite of starting all over again with the reserve team, after most of the players coached by Vela Khumalo were promoted to the first team, the Glamour Boys have unearthed another prolific striker in 15-year-old Neo Bohloko.

Bohloko's brace over the weekend in Amakhosi's 2-1 win over Chippa United, took his tally for the season to nine goals in 16 games and former Jomo Cosmos utility player Lucky Mhlathe believes the talented teenager can also contribute goals for the first team.

"Prospect for the future? He's (ready), I want to see him next week, when we finish AFCON, I want to check Kaizer Chiefs' team-sheet in the DStv Premiership, whether he's there on the bench because it's the right time," Mhlathe said on SuperSport TV.

"We broke at the same age, 16, 17 already we were knocking on the door, so he's one that can be introduced, last 15 minutes of the game he will get goals."

Meanwhile, Khumalo also believes Bohloko is destined to become an asset for the country after expertly scoring two goals using his right and left foot.

"He was in the box so, that's Neo for you, very clever, very intelligent, you don't teach that as a coach, you always try just to guide but he's very intelligent," Khumalo said on SuperSport TV.

"And given time South Africa is having a striker in him. I'm proud of him, at 15 he's scoring week in and week out, this is good for him," he added.

Bohloko is chasing a goal-scoring record in the Diski Challenge of 24 goals in a season set by Pirates striker Boitumelo Radiopane, currently on loan at Cape Town Spurs, in the 2021/22 campaign.
