Head coach Hugo Broos has provided an assessment of his squad following Bafana Bafana’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Algeria on Tuesday.

South Africa settled for a 3-3 draw against The Desert Eagles at the Nelson Mandela in Algeria on Tuesday night as Themba Zwane struck twice before Elias Mokwana’s deflected shot went off Iqraam Rayners for a third for the visitors.

Algeria replied through a Yassine Benzia brace and a Yacine Brahim strike at the opposite end of the pitch to see the match finish even-stevens.

Speaking at the post-match press conference after the game, Broos revealed that he was impressed with his side’s showing.

"What a game," enthused the Belgian.

"It was a fantastic game from both teams, but the performance of South Africa was really good today.

"We played against (a) strong team, but (I) don't think there was much difference between the quality of our game and the quality of the game of Algeria.

"So, that means that we have made a lot of progress in the last months. We showed it already at AFCON, but I think today we did it again and I think we don't have to be afraid anymore of any team in Africa.

"The team is high in confidence. It’s what I saw at AFCON, that it’s not only a team on the pitch but it’s a team outside the pitch as well and that’s very important. From 23 players, there are only 11 who can play, but you see also those guys on the bench, they really support those on the pitch.

"This is a very good thing. When You see that a as coach you can only be happy, and they show it also on the pitch, they show that they are a team. Everyone wants to win the game and the mentality is good.

"What we saw at AFCON, we saw again today. So, that means that we are making a lot of progress.

Bafana now turn their attention to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier clash against Nigeria in June.
