Orlando Pirates claimed yet another win this past weekend acter overcoming AmaZulu.

With former Kaizer Chiefs star Frank Makua having recently claimed that Orlando Pirates stand a better chances at stopping Mamelodi Sundowns than his former side, KickOff readers have now had their say on the topic! Here's a look.

The story

Makua heaped lots of praises for the Bucs, even insisting that they have a better team than Chiefs "pound for pound". The former midfielder suggested that the players in Naturena now are not up to the stand many have gotten used to at the club and have ultimately failed this season.

KO readers on Facebook had quite the reaction to the suggestions that Pirates could restrict Sundowns' dominances in the coming seasons.

“Pirates has always been tipped to dethrone Sundowns by their legends. If they win 3 games in a row, they start hallucinating, seeing things that don't exist and day dreaming. If Pirates has to dethrone Sundowns they should start by beating Stellies or Spurs,” says Trev NotNoah.

“Facts: There are 16 teams in the PSL. Sundowns is one of the best teams in Africa. Orlando Pirates has performed consistently, but the results have been inconsistent due to a number of reasons, one being lack of good strikers,” says Siyabonga Biyela.

“Pirates start the season slowly and finish better every season. The combinations come very late. Of course, Pirates can do themselves favor and concentrate on beating everyone else except the 2 big games against Sundowns and the Derby. Then they will have a very big chance,” says Ntambo Ntambo.

“And Stellenbosch they're strong,” says Mokone Otladisa.

"I’m a Sundowns fan but this team is not consistent, they start loosing games after few wins in a row. They can't even qualify for CAF and it looks like something is missing. Pirates need to pull their socks to help Sundowns to compete for CA,” says Stanwest Infinity Propertiez.

“The problem with my beloved Orlando Pirates is that we are not consistent at all,” says Retshabile Dipopego.

“Problem with Pirates is that they do better towards the end of the season as far as the league is concerned,” says Wisani Nkombyane.

“They will buy all their players come the end of the season, just to bench them,” says Letlhogonolo Selebalo.

“So some shallow minded fans think stopping Sundowns is all about beating Sundowns. Stopping Sundowns is about winning almost all games like what they do, not just focusing on them. What's the point of beating them and losing to Chippa,” says Gezani Gazza Ndavani.

“Too late because we had a chance to do that against the teams like Cape Town Spurs, Swallows, and Sekhukhune United, but we went on to lose twice to Stellenbosch,” says Bhut Samnkelisiwe.

“Maybe next season they will,” says Joe Nathi.

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani also recently said that Abbubakar Mobara's red-card against Pirates should've have not been given, whilst he also insisted that the Pirates should have received a red card themselves during the match.

This is what KO readers had to say:

“Sadly, he didn't show other angles where it appears that there was contact between the players. I still believe the ref took the right decision based on his sight; he was not far from the action. I also do not think Mobara kicked the ball as Victor claimed; the ball changed direction when it hit his foot from the Bucs player. In the end, we all have our own views on what we have seen. Ultimately, it is up to the referee to make split-second decisions based on what they see in the moment,” says Kanye Pamba.

“Hlungwane was a bad ref during his refereeing time and he hated Pirates with passion so I'm not surprised,” says Gatsheni Mandla Brighton.

“How many times were Pirates robbed? Starting from Swallows game backwards, Pirates would be fewer points behind Sundowns. Even in the Soweto derby, tw penalties were denied. Let Pirates enjoy it.,” says Raymond Grootboom.

“God is with us. We are benefiting and we are not ashamed,” says Sbee Motlabaile Mogashoa.

“They robbed AmaZulu twice in a space of seven days. We know they won't suspend those referees. They must withdraw Mobara's red card,” says Fumi Maushe.

“Prior to the games against AmaZulu, we went four matches where we were on the receiving end from poor officiating. The media was quiet because it was Pirates suffering. We have a serious refeering crisis in the PSL,” says Lindo Hlatshwayo.

“It happens every week. I'm Orlando Pirates supporter and most of us realize that it was a wrong call through a replay. SAFA referees are killing our local football,” says Mojalefa Morudi.

“The bottom line is referees have been so inconsistent this season,” says Shepherd William Mpofu.

“Even Hlongwane was a poor referee I don't believe in him,” says Simpiwe Lastborn Junior.
