Former Baroka FC head coach Kgoloko Thobejane, he of 'football will kill you' fame, has questioned the criteria used in selecting the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season.
Although the majority believe the Coach of the Season should be automatically the man that guides his team to the DStv Premiership title triumph, then AmaZulu FC head coach Benni McCarthy won it after finishing second in 2020/21.
This time around, league champions Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena faces off against Steve Barker and Jose Riveiro for the accolade.

"To me, the criteria that carries more weight is the one of winning the DStv Premiership, 30 games is a marathon," Thobejane tells KickOff.
"Cup competitions are just knockout games; you win five games, you are a champion. To win the league, you need consistency.
"Benni McCarthy was more influential than the other coaches, hence I say sometimes it's about the criteria. Some people are more important than others.
"It's those small things that make a big difference in football. I don't think we have clear guidelines when it comes to the criteria.
"Eish, football, my brother," he adds.
Thobejane says fans should desist from accusing the judges of bias and support whatever decision is made.
"Tomorrow it might be you winning.
"I've been one of those guys. There was a stage where I won more games in the Q-1 than Clinton Larsen, but instead of awarding me the Coach of the Month award, they gave it to Larsen.
"When I was asked how I felt about the judges' decision, I made it clear I was not in football for accolades."
