Middendorp went down with SV Meppen to the fourth tier (Regionalliga Nord) of German football after failing to escape the drop in 3.Liga last season.
It then all looked encouraging when he got off the mark on a winning note in the new campaign as he sought to gain promotion.

However, it has gone all sour in the last two games with defeats against Bremer SV and SSV Jeddeloh II with the latest coming on Wednesday.
Straight after that defeat in Edewecht, Middendorp announced his resignation from his role as head coach and sporting director.
Steffen Puttkammer has taken over in the meantime.
Middendorp (64) is now available yet again for South African clubs where he has coached the longest.
The veteran coach joined SVM after dumping Swallows in March three months into the job.
What makes the prospect of Middendorp returning to the DStv Premiership is the fact that he has not taken over a fresh job from the start of the season since his first stint at Kaizer Chiefs back in 2005.
It has been a case of taking over with the season already in motion be it China, Germany, or Cyprus.
In South Africa it has been the same at Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, Free State Stars, second stint at Chiefs, Swallows, and all the four stints that he has had at Maritzburg United.
Of note is that Middendorp has coached seven clubs in South Africa including two stints at Chiefs.
