Chiefs 'ready' to challenge for trophies, reassures Ntseki

Head coach Molefi Ntseki believes too much time has passed since Kaizer Chiefs lifted silverware and is determined to present club chairman and founder Kaizer Motaung with a trophy as the MTN8 gets underway.

Amakhosi will be aiming to collect not only their first win of the new season, but possibly a first trophy since 2015 when they begin their MTN8 campaign against Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium on Sunday.

"Everything at Kaizer Chiefs is pressure because the demands and expectations are always high, especially from the management that is used to winning things, especially from the supporters that are used to winning things," Ntseki said.

"When we are not winning it's a disappointment, it becomes a big setback to the management of the club and the supporters.

"So when you have an opportunity to play a game, you understand that it's must-win game, whether it's a cup game whether it's a league match, it's a must-win game.

I think it has been some time now not putting smiles on the faces of our supporters and I think also the chairman of the club to Dr Motaung still has to be presented with the trophy after such a very long period of time.Molefi Ntseki on Kaizer Chiefs' trophy drought.

"So, all of that comes with the responsibility that you are taking as a technical team, as the players to say we represent the club we have to do well for the club and in doing well for the club we ought to have a very good performance, we ought to have a very good understanding among each other and have a very common objective going forward.

Asked on the readiness of the team to challenge for silverware this season, Ntseki was optimistic.

"I think the club has done very well in trying to get us to a ready [to win trophies] moment in bringing new players and potential," added Ntseki.

"The readiness can always come from the players because as a coach you make them ready and then when you share the knowledge you share the information with them it's for them to implement that information but it's also for you to help them implement that information.

"Implementing the information correctly you will be able to be games and when you win games it means you're not going to be more worried about what happened in the past you're planning for the future and the future as of now it looks very bright for all of us because we have the belief and the confidence to say we are going to get it right.

Chiefs were knocked out in the semi-finals of the last season's MTN8 by AmaZulu, who eventually lost out to Orlando Pirates in the final.

The match against Cape Town City is scheduled to kick off at 15:00.
