Struggling Man Utd suffer heavy defeat at Old Trafford

Ten-man Manchester United's suffered their third defeat of the Premier League season after a heavy 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Man United made three changes from their draw against FC Twente in the UEFA Europa League, as Matthijs de Ligt, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were recalled.

Spurs, meanwhile, reverted to a regular line-up after a comfortable win over Qarabag in the UEL, although Son Heung-Min was missing through injury and Timo Werner occupied his position on the wing.

Ange Postecoglou's charges had a perfect start after Brennan Johnson gave them the lead within the first three minutes with a tap-in, from a cross by Micky van de Ven, after the Red Devils lost possession cheaply.

United were under immense pressure and with 20 minutes on the clock, Johnson almost doubled the lead for the Lilywhites with a strike in the box that came off the bottom post.

Erik ten Hag's men got into the game ten minutes before the interval, as Garnacho came close to the equaliser with a volley that came off the post.

The Red Devils could not capitalize on their momentum, as they were reduced to ten men shortly before the break, after Bruno Fernandes was red-carded for a high boot challenge that caught James Maddison on his leg.

Spurs did not waste time to make their numerical advantage count from the break, as two minutes in, Dejan Kulusevski doubled their lead with a flick in the box after a deflected cross.

Ten Hag's troops lifted up their heads only after the hour-mark, as Casemiro almost pulled a goal back with with a bouncing shot that flashed just wide.

The Dutch tactician had to inject fresh ideas and legs going forward from the bench with a double change in the last 17 minutes, as Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen replaced Marcus Rashford and Manuel Ugarte.

However, luck was on the visitors' side, as Dominic Solanke wrapped up the three points five minutes later with a close-range tap in from a corner situation.

The win took Tottenham up to eighth on the table and United dropped down to 12th after six rounds of matches.
