Sandile Zungu casts doubt on Lunga Sokhela as AmaZulu general manager

AmaZulu FC chairman Sandile Zungu has cast doubt on the future of general manager Lunga Sokhela as he looks to improve the running of the club.

Sokhela has not been present at two big recent club events which has created questions about his future with Usuthu.

Zungu responded to the question about the general manager position and said he is discussing the issue of the general manager.

"The position of general manager is a very critical one, I won't lie, it's very critical," the new AmaZulu owner told the media during their new kit launch in Howick.

"Working together between new owners and old staff has to be number-one priority, we need to sort it out very quickly.

"I must say we haven't had a focused discussion with Sokhela, but it's very important to separate and adapt that it's no longer a family business but it's my job, and I'm hired.

"When you are professional, you will know that. But if you don't, it will be hard for you. As a chairman, I want this team to be well managed."

Zungu says he wants to sort out management issues as he believes it played a huge role in the struggles of the club, which has resulted in AmaZulu fighting for relegation almost every season.

"We need to make sure the club is well managed because most of the times a good club, it's when they have a top and organised management before going to the field," he explained.

"I'm not sure about our weakness but it's clear the reason the club has been fighting relegation every year is because of something lacking in the top, but it won't help to mention names.

"We need to sort out the general manager situation as soon as possible."

As the club moves in a new direction, Zungu wants to start by making sure the management is united in the boardroom and says he is not planning to change things until there is a need to do so.

"I've said it before that I want us to work together and unite. I've never said those who came with me must take over. We will work with everyone in the club. We've kept everyone and will make sure we support them, including the coach and players."
