Orlando Pirates defender Happy Jele's family support Kaizer Chiefs

Though Jele earns his living in Pirates colours his family has always been staunch Kaizer Chiefs except his odd uncle whose heart is with The Bucs.

“In my family they all support Chiefs even though I am a Pirates player. It is only my uncle who supports Pirates so the derby week makes it difficult for me because the people that I love are standing on the other side of the fence.

“The Soweto Derby week makes it a bit awkward but I believe that though my family supports Chiefs they also want to see me do well. What I know is that as long as I am also playing my family supports me on the other side because that is the moment that they are supposed to forget about Chiefs and support their own child,” says Jele.

The 26 year-old adds that though the Carling Label Cup is merely a pre-season competition the desire to win remains the same.

“This is a game where you need to enjoy yourself so that everyone gets to see that you are a Pirates player capable of doing the job. With us as players we are keen to deliver for the fans. This game is also not in any way different because we are still competing to win.

“This is a game where you need to make an impression so that you become a serious contender for a place to play when the season starts.

“For us as players we go out there and apply ourselves the same way we would normally apply ourselves in any normal match,” he says.
