Manyama into exclusive table

Lebogang Manyama's hat-trick against Golden Arrows on Wednesday elevated him into becoming only the ninth Kaizer Chiefs player to take the match ball home at the end of a league match in the PSL era years.

Manyama's scored the equaliser just after the half hour mark with a simple tap in benefitting from a piercing run and cross by Willard Katsande after Arrows had taken the lead 10 minutes earlier.

Then on 73 minutes the Chiefs jersey number 21 was back to level the tie again getting to the end of another penetrative run from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo to just direct his effort into the nets.

Sitting on a brace and with the game in need of a winner as Chiefs chased all three points Manyama raised his hand yet again six minutes later.

Leonardo Castro did the work down the left channel setting up Ngcobo who in then laid the ball up for a free Manyama.

With his name up the horizon for his first hat-trick, Manyama knew that he had to make sure with this one drilling an unstoppable shot into the nets for what was a much-needed victory.

Three points for caretaker bosses Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard's first game in charge made the last league game against TS Galaxy so relevant that it will have a cup final feel to it.

Chiefs will need all three points to sneak into position eight and go away celebrating that they will now play in the MTN8 next season at the end of a draining campaign which has them dejected more than they have rejoiced.

From the first time that a Chiefs player scored at least three goals back in September 1996, Manyama now finds himself as only the ninth member sitting on that exclusive table which features three players who have done it twice.

Three of the nine players to score league hat-tricks for Amakhosi have done it twice.
