Decision time for Pirates and out-of-sight attacker

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Orlando Pirates and an out-of-favour midfielder could have some tough decisions to make.

Pirates have enjoyed a bright start to the season with just two defeats from their first 18 matches across all competitions, including successfully defending their MTN8 trophy.

The emergence of youngsters Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota has been a testament to the club's youth strength.

On the downside, that emergence has raised some question marks over the future of some players.

One such case is that of Katlego Otladisa, whose future at the club is remains up in the air.

The 28-year-old is yet to make a single appearance this term and has fallen massively down the pecking order.

He joined Bucs at the start of 2023/24 after a standout season with relegated Marumo Gallants.

He made 12 appearances in his debut campaign but ultimately struggled to convince head coach Jose Riveiro that he was worthy of a starting berth.

The emergence of Nkota as a starter and the fact the club is actively assessing attacking midfielder Siphelele Luthuli both point to a possible exit for the winger.

With a deluge of matches coming, the Soweto giants, however, could keep Otladisa as part of the side's depth.

For the former Mamelodi Sundowns man, a tough decision lies ahead as well, as he still has one more season left on his contract.

Even if the club chooses to keep him beyond the current campaign, it may serve the player better to move elsewhere in search of game-time.

Whatever decision Otladisa makes, at 28, it may make or break the remaining years of his career.
