Maritzburg rallied from a goal down to beat the heavily-fancied Absa Premiership leaders 3-1 at a heaving Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday to secure a first ever final for the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit.
Coach Fadlu Davids has also steered United to third place on the league standings with three games remaining, as the side looks set to better the club's best-ever seventh-placed finish last term.
Davids already endeared himself to the club's fans during his playing days, notably scoring twice on the last day of the National First Division season in 2007/08 against FC AK as Maritzburg won promotion to the topflight.
“This is a game that will be in the archives of the club,” Kadodia said.
“Fadlu has been a loyal servant of the club and as a player he helped promote the club against FC AK at Harry Gwala Stadium. And then after he was injury prone we gave him the opportunity of working with Ernst Middendorp as his assistant coach, and I think he took it with both hands.
“His commitment to learn is first class and I think he’s done a brilliant job. But, also, what you must understand is when we gave Fadlu the opportunity of coaching he took it in two hands and he was committed to learn at that time from Ernst Middendorp. He went with his coaching lessons and he’s very passionate about the job.”
Meanwhile, Kadodia believes his side turned the corner this season when they beat Cape Town City 4-2 in KwaMashu in December to snap an 11-game winless run, which included nine matches without scoring a goal.
“The success story for the club in turning the corner was when we came back against Cape Town City in KwaMashu. We’ve never looked behind us since that result,” Kadodia said.
“It was definitely the turning point and as I said we never looked back. From then on we lost the odd game, otherwise we were right in it.
“But the mandate for the coach was we have got to finish better than what we finished last season which was seventh spot.
“Believe me, I’m confident we’ll finish in a top-four position.”
Since that victory over the Citizens, the Team of Choice have won 12 games, drawn four and lost four in all competitions.
Maritzburg will revive hostilities with Downs in the league at Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday night.
They will then visit Kaizer Chiefs on April 28 before hosting neighbours Golden Arrows at home on May 12 - a week before concluding their campaign with the Nedbank Cup final against Free State Stars in Cape Town.
