Title hopes dented as Barca stumble at Getafe

FC Barcelona lost some ground in the LALIGA title race after a 1-1 draw against Getafe CF in LaLiga on Saturday evening.

Alejandro Balde returned at fullback ahead of Gerard Martin before Marc Casado came in for Frenkie de Jong in the changes by Barca from the 5-1 triumph over Real Betis.

The title-chasers put their noses in front on nine minutes when Jules Kounde moved across the area to make the most of a rebound from goalkeeper David Soria.

Barca were unfortunate not to double the lead moments later through a smart header by the flying Raphinha across the area, but he ended up going into the side-netting.

It proved costly as the home team levelled up when Inaki Pena smothered a half-volley by Coba da Costa back into play and to a lurking Mauro Arambarri to net from point-blank range.

Free-scoring Robert Lewandowski almost had the Blaugrana back ahead with a header across the face of the area having gone to the far post, but it sailed well wide.

An immediate change at the start of the second half saw the visitors introduce de Jong from the bench and removed Casado in a like-for-like change.

Getafe fancied taking control of proceedings earlier on where a quick passage up top led to an opening for Arambarri, but he snapped his lines.

The bright spell continued for the host as a smart run-up to the box by Christantus Uche caused the Blaugrana to track back and steadfastly hold ground.

Hansi Flick's men weren't too conservative later on and enjoyed decent ventures to the latter third, but the host proved difficult to overcome and 1-1 it ended.
