Henyakane enjoyed a successful career at Arrows together with his brother Richard before joining Aces.
Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Lebo Mothibantwa talks fondly of his homeboy and says Northern Province has lost a great role-model.
"I remember the year before last we played together in Norman Smith’s tournament. We had our own team with the likes of Metsimetsi, Norman and other ex-pros,” Mothibantwa tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“Joseph played in central defence, I was playing in midfield and Norman up-front, and he was on top of his game and one of the best players at the tournament.
“We spoke about our situations and really wanted to return to the PSL. He was very serious during those games … committed and focused.
“Yes, like me he made certain choices in life, but a great player he was. We have lost not only a brother, but also a cadre of soccer in Northern Cape and a role-model for many youngsters in the province.”
