FC Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez said that his side deserved to be victorious against rivals Real Madrid.

Furious Barcelona boss Xavi slammed officials following his side's defeat to bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Jude Bellingham's stoppage-time winner saw Los Blancos emerge as 3-2 victors when the two sides clashed in a LALIGA encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday.

The win meant that Carlo Ancelotti's side extended the gap at the top of the table, moving 11 points clear of Barca.

Xavi, however, believes his side should have won the game and criticised referee Soto Grado and VAR official Sanchez Martinez after Lamine Yamal's goal was disallowed with the score level at 1-1.

As the league does not have goal-line technology, Grado waved play on and VAR was unable to confirm whether the ball had crossed the line.

"Everyone saw it. No need to say more. Speaking out could hurt me and my reputation. Judge for yourself. If we play again, we'll win this game, but this is all part of the club's growth and learning process," he said per Mundo Deportivo.

After being told that goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen referred to the refereeing on the night as "shameful", the Blaugrana boss agreed with his player.

"I completely agree with him. It's the truth. We shouldn't stay silent. It's a disgrace. I feel a great sense of injustice today. The match wasn't fair. I can't lie to anyone, especially not the fans. It's clear.

"Yesterday, you asked me about the referee, and I said I hoped he would go unnoticed and make the right calls.

"Well, he did neither. It's a shame. If we want the best League in the world, we need to use technology.

"There have been situations that went against us and others that we can't control, like refereeing decisions.

"I try to be honest and not deceive the fans. We deserved to win today.”
