CAF recently revealed the highest-ranked clubs on the continent, and it is a list dominated by North African teams. Who are top of the pile, though?
It is perhaps unsurprising that the ranking, based on teams' performance in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup over the past five seasons, is dominated by clubs from the north, with the likes of 2021/22 CAFCL winners Wydad Casablanca, Al Ahly, and Esperance de Tunis all among the continent's strongest sides.

Recently crowned African champions Wydad, who, per CAF, are the second-best team on the continent, are one of three Moroccan clubs in the top five, alongside Raja Casablanca and 2021/22 CAF Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane.
Berkane's South African opponents in that final, Orlando Pirates, feature just outside the top 10 in 11th spot, while fellow Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are 18th.
The highest-placed South African club, meanwhile, is Pretoria outfit Mamelodi Sundowns, who are in sixth position. This will not surprise many as Masandawana have been regular participants in continental competition over the past few seasons.
It is Egypt's Al Ahly, who recently parted ways with their head coach Pitso Mosimane, who remain firmly in top spot, though, despite failing to retain their CAFCL crown this past season.
