Former Ghana national team coach Chris Hughton is reportedly in the running for a European job.

Another manager who was sacked at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is now said to be in line for a top job in Europe.

The latest AFCON brought all the drama both on and off the pitch, with a number of managerial changes being in the mix too.

A whopping nine managers became jobless during the course of the tournament, including former Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset and ex-Ghana manager Chris Hughton.

Gasset was the first to get the chop, having been given his marching orders after the Elephants' third group-stage game, but just a month later, he was appointed as Olympique Marseille's head coach for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

Similar to Gasset, Hughton was also sacked by Ghana after the side embarrassingly failed to make it out of their group, picking up just two points from three games.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss has now been shortlisted for another national team job, this time in Europe.

According to Irish publication Dublin People, Hughton has now been shortlisted for the Ireland national team job.

The 65-year-old does face some stiff competition for the role, though, as the outlet claims that other candidates up for the position include Roy Keane, John O'Shea, Janne Andersson, and Gus Poyet.

It would not be Hughton's first time working with the Irish, however, having previously served as their assistant coach under Brian Kerr between 2003 and 2005.
