Leonardo Castro is still sending reminders to Kaizer Chiefs about what they are missing upfront.
Leonardo Castro is still sending reminders to Kaizer Chiefs about what they are missing upfront.

Colombian striker Leonardo Castro continues to send reminders about his scoring abilities just weeks before he turns 35.

Castro – formerly with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns – has kept the scoring bell ringing at his American club Greenville Triumph.

Earlier on Monday morning, Castro struck the opening goal in a 3-0 win over South Georgia Tormenta in a Peach States derby, which kept his club top of the standings in the USL League One.

It was Castro’s third goal in six league games this season.

That goal came on a silver platter and will rank as one of the easiest that he has ever scored after Tormenta keeper Ford Parker blundered by dropping the ball, allowing Castro an easy tap-in.

Castro turns 35 in May and is in his second season with the American club following the non-renewal of his contract at Chiefs when it expired in June 2022.

The veteran striker scored 13 goals last season.

From his time in the PSL, Castro is remembered for being part of the CBD combination featuring Khama Billiat and Keagan Dolly that tormented opposition during their time at Sundowns.

The Colombian left his footmark in South Africa after spending four-and-a-half years at Chiefs, during which he scored 29 goals after arriving from Sundowns, where he won trophies and scored goals aplenty throughout the 30 months that he was there.

In his last season (2020/21) at Chiefs, the Colombian failed to score in the 13 appearances that he made, before his contract was not renewed, allowing him to then leave on a free transfer.
