Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson says they did Richards Bay a favour after a 1-0 defeat in the DStv Premiership.

Chiefs missed a chance to return to the top eight after a late loss against the Natal Rich Boys, who scored through Simphiwe Mcineka.

Amakhosi missed a lot of chances and Johnson says he is starting to sound like a stuck record.

"We missed so many chances, we had to be calm on the ball in the first-half, I think it came in the second-half as well, where like you say, we had 85% ball possession and we're just not calm enough to put it in the back of the net," Johnson said on SuperSport.

"And I think that's the only shot they had on goal, was the corner-kick where they scored from and what can we do? It's like a stuck record, we've got to go back, make sure we're able to put the ball in the back of the net because everything is there, we're just not putting the ball in the back of the net. So we're gonna go back there and try again."

Johnson was asked if the players have to take responsibility.

"I don't it's the players, it's all of us," the experienced mentor said.

"We have to take responsibility. I have to do something else, it starts with me. We have to do something else to make sure that they are in the right space and mind, and look at what we do during training and that gives them a bonus to play these games.

"And when you see, like you say, 14 shots at goal, guys come on we have to put two away. We cannot allow, I think this is probably the third team we're playing against that their goalkeeper is the Man of the Match. So we have to look at that as well, it's not possible for the goalkeeper to be the Man of the match against us. We've got to pull up our socks. It starts with me and the players will follow."

Chiefs will come up against SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns in a space of three days in their upcoming encounters from the upcoming Saturday against United.

"No it doesn't, it never gets easier. I think the league gives you 30 games to play in competition and the start of the competition is always difficult and the end of the competition is probably more difficult, because now you can see where the teams are, who's ready to go to the top, who's going to the bottom," Johnson responded on the challenge of facing the two Tshwane sides.

"In actual fact, we did Richards Bay a favour today. I don't think it's them who scored the goal, we scored a goal for them, we did them a favour. So yes Kaizer Chiefs need to pull up their socks but like you asked we've got two games against SuperSport and Sundowns.

"Both very good coaches, very good teams and we're gonna have to raise our game even further than we did today," the former SuperSport head coach added.
