Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos was left less than impressed with Rulani Mokwena over an update regarding the fitness of several Mamelodi Sundowns.

Sundowns progressed to the last eight of the Nedbank Cup with a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United on Sunday.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Mokwena revealed that his side had played without several key players, including Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena, among others, due to niggling injuries sustained during national team duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Broos, however, was left fuming with Mokwena’s comments and insisted that the national team should have been made aware of such injuries prior to Mokwena's comments.

"I read something, Rulani saying, 'Ja, those players are not fit'. Why is he talking to the press? Why doesn't the medical staff of Sundowns contact our medical staff? I can't believe what's in the papers," the Belgian told journalists on Wednesday.

"Yes, okay, but if they are really injured, they have to inform us and not talk to the press, telling them that they (the players) are injured.

"So, I think we have a doctor and they know, they have the phone number of the doctor, so why don't they call us and tell us, 'Look, [the players] are not able', and give us a medical report? They didn't do it, so that means they are fit."

"I'm very sorry. I can't go on rumours and say that coach Rulani, or maybe the technical director, told me they are injured. Give me a medical report, and then our doctor will decide if they are injured or not.

"I'm very sorry, but I don't like those kinds of things of telling the press some things.

"They have to call us and tell us, 'Look, this is the problem with the player and this is the medical report.' They didn't do that, so, to me, they (players) are fit."

Bafana take on Andorra on Thursday evening in an international friendly match to be played in Algeria.
